📕 Bedford Park Little Book Stop Update

Unfortunately, this morning I received news that the perspex window has separated from the door and a latch has been removed.

I have recovered all the books before the rain arrived. The box is temporarily out of action until I can find someone to carry out the repairs.

Thank you for your support, I will provide an update once the box is restored!

£70 ParkingEye Fine Issued After 5 Minute Visit To Birkdale Aldi Car Park

I was recently contacted by a Birkdale resident after he received a £70 Parking Charge Notice following a stay of just five minutes in the Aldi car park on Liverpool Road, Birkdale.

The signage at the entrance of the car park states “1½ Hour Max Stay … see signage in car park for terms & conditions.” However, after driving past the Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera, a separate sign near the shopfront states: “No Parking Outside of Store Hours”. By this point, the car had already been recorded by the ANPR system and is therefore liable to the charge.

It was not clear that the store was closed before entering the car park, nor did the signage at the entrance indicate any restrictions relating to the opening hours or state what those hours were. The additional terms and conditions are only displayed inside the car park after motorists have already passed the ANPR cameras.

Despite leaving the car park after realising the store was closed, the resident was later issued with a £70 Parking Charge Notice by private operator ParkingEye despite the notice confirming that the car entered at 18:25 and left by 18:31.

This Penalty Charge Notice also raises concerns about the accessibility of the 24/7 InPost parcel locker next to Aldi. It has been reported by a reliable source that local residents dropping off or collecting parcels outside of Aldi store hours have also been liable to a £70 fine despite the InPost locker being advertised as ‘accessible 24/7’.

I have raised these specific incidents with Aldi, ParkingEye and InPost. InPost promised a reply within 24 hours – but so far have failed to respond.
